Bobby Womack’s career was an unprecedented rollercoaster ride. Starting off on the streets of segregated America, he launched himself into what became an epic adventure. With this celebrated musician participation, the film travels with Bobby in a vintage 1972 Buick through his wild life, from the 1950’s gospel highway to his recent Damon Albarn collaborations.
On route, BOBBY WOMACK: ACROSS 110TH STREET explores his work with the Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke & Janis Joplin – as well as 1970’s stardom, personal addictions & tragedies – before his glorious 21st century comeback. With incredible access to Bobby, he was filmed returning to locations he hadn’t visited for over 4 decades – the scene of his brother’s murder as well as his mentor Sam Cooke’s house.
Bobby Womack, Ronnie Wood, Damon Albarn, Bill Withers, Chuck D, Antonio Fargas, as well as other close friends & family, all help bring one of the most diverse & fascinating post-war musical careers vividly & intimately to life. Rest in peace, Bobby…
